El Convento de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, Malaga Stunning Yoga/Meditation/Holistic/Walking Retreat/Eco Centre or Mountain Lodge set amongst the buildings and grounds of 16th Century Former Barefoot Carmelite Monastery in the Sierra De Las Nieves Biosphere Reserve, Andalucia, only 1½ hrs from Malaga Airport, set between the villages of Yunquera and El Burgo. The 16th Century Monastic House: the old Convento House along with approx 70,000m2 of Olive groves and mixed Pine forest and 2 ruined hermitages. The property comprises a 4 bedroom house that is located in the old monastery building, it forms part of a group of approx 10 other houses and a church all within the old monastery complex. The house is approx with outbuildings and the yoga room 250m2 built. The house is fed by pure spring mountain water, and has electricity from the solar system. Included in the property is a 1/5 share of the old church, although not in a good state it is a fascinating slice of history, it houses one of the oldest olive presses in Andalucia The San Juan Hermitage (located 5 minute walk downhill from the Monastery), 3 huts, compost toilet block, approx 10 hectares of olive groves and mixed evergreen oak old forest and 1 remote ruined hermitage. A recently renovated 16th Century Hermitage now being used as the retreat kitchen, dining, relaxation space and roof top yoga space. Stunning farmhouse open plan kitchen/diner sympathetically restored, very homely feel, and this hermitage would be possible to extend if you wanted more accommodation or living space. Gives out onto huge patio with wooden beamed ceilings and stone floors where retreatants eat and relax the views are onto a beautiful huge mountain and endless forests… There is a storeroom and toilet with hot water to the side of the building. The upstairs of the hermitage is approx 90m2 outdoor yoga roof terrace with 360-degree panoramic mountain views, classic Andaluz tiled floor. The land around the hermitage is landscaped and a lot of terraces have been restored. There are paths linking many areas. Around the hermitage there are 3 hand built huts in peaceful and beautiful locations and 2 wooden huts that sleep 2 each, both with verandas and 1 is fully insulated for winter. Absolutely unique stunning pristine mountain location, due to its remoteness, the fact that its surrounded by forest and at a height of 850 metres makes the air totally pure, its fantastic for any type of breathing practices and its rejuvenative effects are very noticeable. It is seemingly totally remote which is perfect for a retreat environment, 9kms up a track through the Biosphere Reserve it is an ancient pilgrim route and the way is marked by stone roman crosses, the whole approach is special and denotes a spiritual journey. The property comprises 19 hectares (190,000m2) of old bio diverse evergreen oak forest, mountain pine forests, and includes within that approx 8 hectares of productive olive and almond groves with a very high quality extra virgin olive oil. There are 3 more ruined hermitages on the properties´ land; there are 12 hermitages in total (1 for each of the apostles) and a ruined mill. It would be possible to renovate these ruins and they are very useful to obtain permission to build. The land is mostly mountainous and there are stunning views everywhere you look. It is a perfect area for hiking as you can walk from the doorstep into the Sierra de las Nieves Biosphere Reserve. Our nearest neighbours have riding stables and you can go trekking with retreatants around the park. The entrance to the property is a wonderful 9km drive on a good wide track right through the centre of the National Park, which is very well maintained by the Forestry Commission. Part of the entrance track forms some of the signed walking trails in the park, so it is of great interest to walking, cycling or riding enthusiasts. Molino del Rey is ideal for all kinds of holidays, workshops & retreats e.g. Yoga, Tai Chi, Meditation, etc. With 15 years of dedication, it has been totally hand built by the owners from two ancient water mills, into probably one of the most beautiful venues in Spain. Set in the still undiscovered wild beauty of Andalucia, the hamlet of Jorox is in a fertile green valley, flanked by orange groves in the Nature Reserve "Sierra de las Nieves", only 50 min. from the tourist resorts of the Costa del Sol and the magical city of Ronda. A spring of the river "Rio Grande" is born at the entrance of our hamlet. From it the purest of waters pour through our centre, offering bathing facilities whilst surrounded by the wonderful fragrance of mountain flowers. MAIN HOUSE: 1 Single Room and 7 Twin Rooms (one of which has a double & single bed,) all en-suite, with balconies &  air conditioning. TWIN DOME & TWIN CABIN: Set in an exclusive little environment in the bottom garden, away from the main living area. These rooms have air conditioning, "Tempura" memory foam beds, terrace areas, and share a large shower plus two WC's. A single room (fan) next to the restaurant. Use of this room would require using the WC outside the restaurant and sharing a shower in one of the other rooms. An imaginatively designed pool, has been constructed in harmony with the natural environment of our centre. Pool-side 14 seater sauna. The studio is 100m2 with wooden parquet flooring and occupies and extraordinary position, hand-cut out of the mountain, floor to ceiling windows with views across the valley and a door leading into the inner stillness of the caves. The latter serves as natural air conditioning in hot summer months. The studio has incredible acoustics for working with sound, and is fully equipped with yoga props and training materials. Besides our lovely yoga studio, there is also an aprox. 60m2 wooden decking area. We are extremely fortunate in having our own caves, particularly appreciated by meditation groups, and for chanting, overtone, Didgeridoo etc. In fact the whole mountain is honeycombed with caves. MOLINO DEL REY is well situated for day trips by car to Granada with its famous Alhambra, Sevilla one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, Nerja with its famous caves, Cordoba, Gibraltar, Marbella, and of course the delightful city of Ronda. Beautiful walks, hiking, horse riding, closely situated in one of Andalucia's most impressive natural reserves. This huge natural park "Sierra de las Nieves" has been designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, and contains the Abies Pinsapo Boissir, the oldest known species of fir tree found in Europe, just five km from our centre.
