Arzua, Galicia
This stone built property is situated in the stunning mountainous
region of Galicia, and boasts, among many attractive features, a 150
year old mill for renovation. It is an especially beautiful property
for its location at the end of a half kilometre lane, fronting the
river Arnego, offering peace and quiet; the perfect retreat. The
property is an hour from Santiago de Compostela airport, just 25
minutes from the lovely town of Arzúa, through which the Camino
de Santiago (Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago) runs, and an hour and a half
from the beautiful beaches of the Galician coast, both Rías
Bajas and Rías Altas.
Living accommodation measures 192m² in total, and comprises the
following: 4 double rooms (ranging from 18m² to 28m²) and 2
bathrooms, split between the main house & the separate Long House,
which are two storey and one storey respectively. There is a well
appointed kitchen (18m²) and comfortable lounge room with an open
fire (24m²). The property has recently been renovated in local
style, bathrooms are newly fitted and electricity installation has been
recently refurbished. Outside there is a vine covered terrace and a sun
deck, designed to catch the last of the evening sun, as well as a
500m² garden which has access to a bridge over the river, and
leads directly down to the river itself. The Rio Arnego valley runs
west to east and the property faces due south so gets the sun all day,
and experiences a micro climate that attracts Mediterranean butterfly
species as it tends to be 2 to 3 degrees warmer than the surrounding
area. The river is home to trout, kingfishers, dippers and otters. The
property fronts the river, with the original mill building still
containing the four milling stones and machinery, a very exciting
renovation project. The Mill is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, horse
riders (riding stables near by) and wildlife enthusiasts. An ideal
retreat for a family or indeed a business. This property is for sale
fully furnished. The Watermill has been successfully rented out for the
last 3 years and the business web site is www.thewatermillgalicia.com.

Cortijo Los Hurtados, Alpujarras, Southern Spain
The farmhouse is more than two hundred years old with three double
bedrooms, bathroom, lounge, snug, large kitchen, pantry, five terraces
and a wonderful natural pool (13 x 4 metres). The attached cottage has
two double bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, dining room/snug, two terraces
and a large workshop/storeroom. Both properties are full of character
and beautifully restored. The property is completely private surrounded
by six acres of organic olive and almond groves, including an orchard
and a stream.
The views of the valley and surrounding Sierras are awesome; the valley
itself is tranquil and exclusive with a handful of farms nestled along
the river bed and mountains. Water is provided from springs in the high
sierras along a stream to the natural pool and water towers. There is
240 volt electricity with ample solar energy supply provided by at
least 320 days of sunshine a year. Access is via a track of about 1km

larger market town of Orgiva about a 20 minute drive away. Granada
airport is about an hour’s drive and Malaga airport 2 hours, the
beaches at Motril are just under 45 minutes.
The owners use the property as a home but also let the main farmhouse
occasionally during the summer months, which provides an excellent
income, with great potential for further development/expansion. The
property has been reviewed by the Guardian travel section, Marie Claire
Magazine and is included in Alistair Sawday’s “Special Places to Stay”
Spain 2007 - 2009.

Granada Province
This Cavehouse is a renovation of an
existing 70 year old cavehouse. It is set slightly outside a small
rural village of about 80 cave houses, called Carramaiza. It has a
fantastic 180o south-facing view of the Sierra Nevada and the Sierra de
Baza. It is fully renovated with 124m2 internally and a total land area
of approx. 590m2, including the additional land. The unique cavehouse
has a modern rustic style and uses many local natural materials. It is
of a high standard both aesthetically and structurally.
The organic nature of the cave has been emphasized and original
features have been retained. We have allowed for generously
proportioned spaces and high ceilings. The cave has 3 double bedrooms,
a bathroom, a kitchen / dining room, a living room with an open
fireplace, an en-suite shower room and a study or relaxation area.
Outside, the garden had been landscaped with river-stone cobbles and
there are raised beds containing aromatic herbs and a selection of
local plants. There are stone seating areas, an open area for parking
or outside activities, space for a table and chairs and an external tap
and basin. There is also space left to plant a large tree, and a
staircase up to the superb roof terrace where the views and Spanish sun
can be fully appreciated. Carramaiza is on the edge of a plateau which
climbs high from the shores of lake Negratin, where there are wild
beaches for swimming. Cool breezes blow up from the water in the
summer, moderating the high summer temperatures, and in terms of
climate for the south of Spain, it is incredibly favourable. The sky is
expansive and blue, with fantastic sunsets, and in winter, temperatures
fall below freezing and blankets of snow fall over the olive and almond
groves.
Price: 149,000 Euros
